Vitamix 5200 review

Vitamix has been long been established as an industry leader when it comes to blenders, they’ve been producing top quality products for years. This long established reputation is both a blessing and a curse for someone looking to buy one of their products. There are so many models out there, it can be a little overwhelming trying to choose one!

Now there are a lot newer models out there at the moment but today I’m going to talk about one of my favourite models, that is the Vitamix 5200. I’ve chosen to talk about this model in particular as all of the later blenders and other models are basically based around this one.

The first thing I noticed when I unboxed my Vitamix was just how sturdy it felt. It feels incredibly strongly built and as such it’s actually quite heavy in weight, weighing in at around 10 pounds. The motor is also very powerful, it operates with 2 horse power, small in terms of cars but this is a table top blender, that’s huge! It really is incredible to watch how quickly this blender churns through food.

Another great feature that you instantly notice about the Vitamix is it’s intuitive visual layout. The dials and the switches offer you a range of speed options that allow you to blend your ingredients to your own personal preference. They’re also fairly self explanatory when you come to adjust them too so a user manual really isn’t necessary. Basically there’s an on and off switch, a speed dial and a high speed mode switch, a lot simpler than some other blenders out there.

With your Vitamix you are supplied with a blending container which is easily big enough to contain around 4-5 servings, so it’s really easy to make all of the smoothies that you require for the week, all at once. If you’re like me, when I make a smoothie, suddenly the whole family wants one, so this caters for those needs too.

You also get a grinding container, this is ideal for churning and grinding up things like spices and nuts or whatever else you may need to put in there.

Vitamix have also been thoughtful enough to supply you with a blending rod which basically overcomes the problem that a lot of blenders suffer from and that’s not getting your mixture blended evenly. The rod is designed to be inserted into your ingredients and really push them downwards into the blades, when you’re making 5-6 smoothies at once, this can really be a life saver as not all of the ingredients migrate downwards where you want them to be!

I’ll be further reviewing the Vitamix and making smoothies with it in a later post, for now, if you’re interested in buying one or learning more, you can get yourself over to the Vitamix website at

nutribullet review

Honest Nutribullet UK Reviews

One of my favorite juicing products out there at the moment is the Nutribullet. I own one myself and I can’t get enough of this small yet powerful extractor. Notice how I referred to it as an extractor rather than a blender. This is because rather than functioning like a typical blender it has patented extractor blades that are responsible for getting every single drop of nutrition out of the ingredients that you use.

Personally I can’t speak highly enough about it. I’ve had mine for just over year and not only do I use it everyday but I tell everyone about it too. Most of my friends and family now own them too and their equally as happy with them.

So what makes the Nutribullet so great?

Firstly itt does exactly what it claims to do. It takes fruits, vegetables nuts, grains and seeds and breaks them down into some very smooth smoothies, with no pulp!

Secondly it’s very affordable in comparison to other high end smoothie and juicer machines out there. Not only is it reasonably priced though, you get a lot for your money. The Nutribullet boasts a powerful motor and even more powerful extractor blades that do all the hard work when breaking down your hard ingredients.

Thirdly, the Nutribullet is brilliantly compact! I’ve had other juicers and blenders in the past that have been quite cumbersome. They are too big to leave on my kitchen top so they end up in a cupboard. Then, because their in the cupboard, it becomes a chore to take them out resulting in me not using them altogether. it’s small enough to leave out or easy to get back out if you really have a small kitchen.

The small size also makes it very portable. A friend of mine takes hers to work with her, personally I’d rather take the smoothie ready made but each to their own!

Fourthly, because it’s so popular, they are very easy to get a hold of now. I got mine from a site based in the UK which can be found with a CLICK HERE, who supply them in the UK (it’s actually an American product in case you didn’t know).

Fifthly, they’re easy to clean! This is a big plus for me because if something is hard to clean and I’m using it day in and day out, I’ll soon stop using it! I know that sounds bad but it’s true.

Are there any downsides?

The only one that I can come up with is that it only comes with one extractor blade. Now for someone like me who depends on this blender day in and day out being without it is a bad thing! Unfortunately for me I had been leaving my extractor blade in water to soak rather than cleaning it straight away and after such heavy usage it did start to rust a little underneath. Oh and don’t confuse it with the magic bullet either, the Nutribullet is far better.

Now this was completely my fault as any metals you treat in this way are going to eventually rust. It would have been great though to have a replacement extractor blade so that I could carry on juicing without waiting for my other one to come. A minor gripe though!

juicing tips

Tips before starting juicing and detoxifying

This post is going to be all about detoxing and great tips to do this. There are a multitude of different detox diets out there that can be a little overwhelming when trying to choose the right one for you. It’s to important to understand when considering the various diets out there that they all aim to do the same thing.

You’re best bet when trying to choose one of these diets is to listen to your body and doing what you think is really going to work and realising that you don’t have to follow and extreme detox diet in order for your detox to be effective.

While many people out there promote detoxing for weight loss, the primary goal of detoxing is to cleanse your bodies of impurities and toxins and not for losing weight. Generally detoxing is a bad idea if you’re trying to lose weight in the long term, this is because you typically put back on the weight that you lost during your detox period when you resume eating normally again.

You can detox anywhere form 3 days to 3 weeks and beyond. Try and do what you’re capable of. One day of detoxing is definitely better than no days. Detoxing can help relieve pain, improve your overall health and deal with afflictions such as skin issues.

The first recommendation for detoxing is to start drinking more water. You should aim to do this even before you start detoxing. Try and always have a bottle of water on you wherever you go during the day, this can greatly improve the quantities of water that you take on board as you’re effectively making it a habit and something that you don’t have to make an effort to do.

My next tip before you start detoxing is to exercise. Exercising generally improves your overall health and gets your heath going. If you never work out, over time your muscles can waste away and become ineffective, exercise alleviates this. Exercise also benefits you by improving your circulation and therefore making your body more efficient of getting rid of toxins.

So what are the things that I need to eliminate from my diet?

There are actually quite obvious and you probably know about the substances that I’m going to mention. I’m talking about alcohol, cigarettes and coffee. By eliminating these alone you are likely to feel and overall improvement in your health.

Next try and eliminate junk foods. These are foods that have very little nutritious value and are typically fried and processed. In a similar fashion, it’s a great idea to eliminate processed foods. This prevents you from adding further toxins to your body unnecessarily.

Finally to decrease the stress on your digestive system before you detox, start eliminating dairy products from your diet. Dairy products cause inflammation in your body and are hard to break down. Give you digestive system a rest and cut them out.

How healthy are juicer diets?

Thinking of starting a juicer diet? We all know that are a multitude of diet choices out there, so why should you follow a juicer diet over any other and what are the health benefits to you?

Following a juicer diet does have many advantages that other diets don’t. For example most juicer recipes include a good portion of your recommended daily allowance of fruit and veg, making it easy for you to stay healthy while on your diet.

\when trying to eat healthy, a lot of people find eating salad and vegetables challenging, a juicer diet overcomes this by making your meal replacement juice both tasty and enjoyable usually because your mix ingredients that you aren’t overly fond of with those that you enjoy. It is often best to incorporate at least two or three portions of fruit and veg in your juices, preferably ones that differ in colour to ensure that you’re getting the full range of vitamins and minerals that your body requires.

Get your daily dosage of fiber

Another great advantage of following a juicer diet is that you’re likely to get high amounts of fiber in your diet. Fiber is found in most fruit and veg in large quantities, by including them in your recipes you ensure that you are getting plenty of it.

To take advantage of these high levels of fiber in the fruit your using be sure to reintroduce some of the solids that your juicer machine may extract that would otherwise go to waste. It is these solids that are extracted that contain the actual fiber that you need in your diet.

Should you not want to reintroduce pulp to your juice, it is possible to use some of the solids left over in other recipes within you diets. Orange solids can be used to make delicious soups and broths for example.

Do you need to buy a juicer?

So do you actually need a juicer to make your juices? Actually no, you have a few options available to you. A number of the more expensive blenders out there are perfectly capable of breaking down pulp into small enough pieces that you feel like there is none, this way your drinks contain all of the fibre, vitamins and minerals of the ingredients your using, so this can be a good option.

Another more time consuming option available to you is to use your ordinary every day blender to create a blend and then sieve the results, this is another more time consuming way of removing pulp and again you do miss out on some of that great fiber and vitamins that your ingredients contain.

Something to consider when juicing

Although the ingredients that you use in various juicing recipes are usually good for you, you need to be careful with how many of them that you actually consume. It’s very easy to eat far more fruit than you normally would, these fruit although good for you can contain high levels of natural sugars that can add un-needed calories to your diet. Just watch that you don’t fall into this trap!
